It is on the wrong side of the wall

Seven products on this shelf keep weather off a machine outdoors. This one keeps dust out of a duct indoors.

Both are reasonable purchases and neither substitutes for the other, which is worth saying because eight dollars looks like a bargain next to fifty-two until you notice they do unrelated jobs.

The frame is the useful part

A loose fabric vent filter gets pulled off and into the duct. A rigid PVC frame with magnets stays where it is put — and comes off to be rinsed rather than thrown away.

The questions that keep coming up

Will it protect my air conditioner?

Not the outdoor unit, no. Seven products on this shelf cover a machine outside; this one sits on a supply or return register inside. What it does protect is the ductwork, from dust and pet hair going down it.

Does it restrict airflow?

Any filter does. The listing gives no pressure-drop figure and no MERV rating, so the extent is unknown. A register filter on a return is the normal use; on a supply register it mostly catches dust falling in.

Will the magnets hold?

On a steel register, yes — the listing claims magnets 30 per cent stronger than its previous version. On aluminum or plastic registers, magnets do not stick at all, and the listing does not raise that.
