Airthings

The widest sensor set we found — radon included — built entirely around an app

Airthings appears in one family here: air quality monitors.

What we found writing the review

Seven sensors, one device. Radon, PM2.5, CO2, VOCs, humidity, temperature and air pressure — the widest set of any monitor we reviewed, against a maximum of three sensors on the other units in this family.

Radon measured by diffusion, not instantly. Airthings uses a passive diffusion chamber with alpha-spectrometry detection, a slower-reacting method than the CO2/PM2.5 sensors, since radon is assessed as an average over time rather than a single reading.

An account is stated as required. Unlike the standalone monitors elsewhere in this family, Airthings states the View Plus needs the app and an account to function — there’s no way to just glance at a self-contained readout without it.

  • Airthings View Plus

    7 sensors incl. radon & CO2 · Wi-Fi + app · battery powered

A seven-sensor Wi-Fi monitor covering radon, PM2.5, CO2, VOCs, humidity, temperature and air pressure, read through the Airthings app. Radon is sampled with a passive diffusion chamber and alpha-spectrometry detection; the unit runs on AA batteries or USB and can act as a hub for other Airthings devices.

Best for: Whole-home air monitoring where someone wants radon and VOC coverage alongside CO2 and particulates, and is comfortable running everything through the Airthings app.
