The best electric fireplace for 2026

Every unit here bundles a decorative flame effect with a heater, and the two work independently on all three — flame with no heat, heat with no flame, or both. None of these should be treated as a room's primary heat source unless the wattage and coverage figures say so explicitly, which none of the three do in full.

Freestanding, and the simplest setup

The Juskys 1800W is first for a straightforward freestanding stove with LED flame and WiFi/app control, no surround or cut-out required.

Three ways to fit it

The KAMINIO Marlon Pro 50 is the flexible pick: Kaminio states it can stand freely, build into a surround, or mount to a wall, covering up to 30 m (98 ft)² and switching between 900 W and 1800 W heat settings.

A flush insert, and a 7 W flame-only mode

The Dimplex XHD26 is the pick for a media-wall or chimney-breast renovation, where a flush, brand-name insert matters more than heat output. Its Optiflame LED effect draws just 7 W on its own, letting it run for ambience without the 1400 W heater switched on — the lowest heater output of the three, and Dimplex doesn’t publish a coverage figure for it.

What we would not do

Buy an insert-only unit without a surround already planned. The Dimplex needs a cut-out built or bought to its exact dimensions — the Juskys or Kaminio are the more forgiving choices if the housing doesn’t exist yet.

Which unit does your room need?

You mainly want the look
Flame realism and the quality of the surround decide, and heating output becomes secondary.
You want genuine top-up heating
Look at output and control as you would on a radiator: an electric fire heats like a convector, no more and no less.
You are building it in
Clearances and heat evacuation become construction constraints, to check before buying.
You want flame without heat
A flame-only mode lets you enjoy it in summer; not every fire offers one.

Picking by the room you have

Living room atmosphere

The main and openly stated use: a visual flame, possibly with no heating. The quality of the illusion comes from depth and movement, not from resolution.

Top-up in a medium room

The output of these appliances is that of a portable heater. It warms a room that is already tempered; it does not heat a house.

Filling a disused hearth

An electric insert occupies the opening with no flue and no sweeping. It is the use where it convinces most.

Holiday letting

No fuel, no flue, no chimney fire risk: the appliance justifies itself by what it removes.

What is worth looking at, and what is not

The quality of the flame
It comes from the method — mirror, projection, water vapor — and is judged in person, not from a photograph. It is the one criterion where a subjective view outweighs the datasheet.
Output and its control
Two settings and a rudimentary thermostat on most models. For genuine heating use, control matters as much as on a radiator.
Fan noise
The heat is blown: there is a fan, and it is heard in a quiet room. It is what most often disappoints after purchase.
Installation
Freestanding, wall-hung or built in: the choice governs clearances, supply and whether you can undo it.

Where buyers go wrong

Expecting the heat of a real fire
The power available from a domestic socket sets a low, immovable ceiling. An electric fire is a portable heater that shows a flame.
Building it in with no ventilation
The appliance must shed its heat and breathe. Too tight an enclosure trips the thermal cut-out, or worse, ages the electronics.
Plugging it into a multi-way adaptor
Like any heater it wants a dedicated socket. It is the same rule as for a radiator, and just as often ignored.
Choosing from photographs
Flame images are retouched and shot in the dark. The gap between the photo and a lit living room is the leading cause of disappointment.

By the household you are in

Atmosphere above all
A model whose flame convinces in person, with a no-heat mode for summer.
Top-up, acknowledged
An appliance treated as a radiator: adequate output, a decent thermostat, a discreet fan.
The disused hearth
An insert sized to the existing opening, checking the electrical supply available nearby.

Filters, servicing and working life

An electric fire has neither flue nor combustion, so almost nothing to maintain. What degrades is optical and mechanical: dust on the mirror or screen, a fouled fan, light sources at the end of their life.

  • Dust the glass and the inside of the firebox, cold and unplugged.
  • Clean the fan grille, which draws dust from the floor.
  • Check the wall fixing once a year on hung models.
  • On water-vapor models, follow the filling and descaling instructions.

Safety

No real flame, but an electric heater with its rules.

  • Dedicated socket, never an extension lead or adaptor.
  • Respect the clearances given for building in.
  • Do not place or dry anything on the appliance, the hot air outlet often being at the front.
  • Keep small children away: the glass gets hot on some models.

The picks, and the reasoning

  1. Juskys 1800W

    1800 W · LED flame · WiFi/app control

A freestanding electric stove with a cast-iron-style black cabinet, LED flame effect, and a two-stage 900/1800 W heater controllable by app, WiFi, or infrared remote. The flame runs independently of the heater, with a 12/24 h timer and an adjustable target temperature.

Best for: A first electric stove for a living room corner where the flame effect matters as much as the heat, and app control is a genuine plus rather than a gimmick.

    6.9/10

  2. KAMINIO Marlon Pro 50

    900/1800 W · up to 30 m (98 ft)² · stand, built-in or wall

A 3-in-1 electric fireplace KAMINIO rates to heat rooms up to 30 m (98 ft)², fitted as a freestanding stove, built into a wall recess, or wall-mounted, with mounting hardware included for all three. A 3D LED flame effect with 12 colors and 5 brightness levels runs independently of the 900/1800 W heater, controlled by remote with a thermostat set between 16 and 28 °C (82 °F).

Best for: A living-room feature wall where the fireplace needs to work equally well recessed into cabinetry now and free-standing later if the room is rearranged.

    8.1/10

  3. Dimplex XHD26

    1400 W · Optiflame LED · built-in insert, 7 W flame-only

A built-in insert — not freestanding — designed to fit into a custom surround, media wall cut-out, or existing chimney breast. Dimplex's Optiflame LED technology drives the flame effect, with an optional 1400 W heater that switches on separately; the flame alone draws just 7 W, letting it run continuously without the heater.

Best for: A media-wall or chimney-breast renovation where a flush, brand-name insert matters more than heat output, and the surround is being built to size around the unit.

    8.1/10

The questions that keep coming up

Can any of these heat a room on their own?

None of the three publish a room-coverage figure for their heating element, and none present themselves as a primary heat source. Treat the heater as a supplement to existing heating, and check a dedicated space heater or convector guide if the room's main heat source is the actual goal.

Which one is easiest to install?

The Juskys and Kaminio are both freestanding or flexible-fit designs — the Kaminio explicitly offers stand, built-in or wall mounting. The Dimplex is insert-only and needs a surround, media wall cut-out or chimney breast opening built to its dimensions before it can go in.

Does an electric fire use much electricity?

In flame-only mode, very little. In heating mode it uses exactly what an electric radiator of the same output would.

Do I need a flue or sweeping?

No, there is neither combustion nor smoke. That is precisely the point of the format, and it removes the obligations attached to fuel-burning appliances.

Can it go in a bedroom?

Yes, respecting clearances and using a dedicated socket. Fan noise in heating mode is the point to check before putting one there.

Is the flame visible in daylight?

Far less than in the photographs, which are taken in low light. That is why it is worth judging the appliance lit in a lit room.

Can it be left on unattended?

Like any heater, it goes off when you leave the home. In flame-only mode the risk is low, but the rule is the same as for a radiator.

Do water-vapor models humidify the room?

They produce a fine mist that largely falls back inside the appliance. The effect on room humidity is real but modest, and it brings a reservoir to maintain.

Each unit, and the room it suits

Juskys 1800W

Suits: A first electric stove for a living room corner where the flame effect matters as much as the heat, and app control is a genuine plus rather than a gimmick.

Strongest point: Flame effect runs on its own, with no heater draw — useful for year-round ambience

Weakest point: Juskys does not publish a room-coverage figure in square meters for the heater — only the wattage

KAMINIO Marlon Pro 50

Suits: A living-room feature wall where the fireplace needs to work equally well recessed into cabinetry now and free-standing later if the room is rearranged.

Strongest point: Genuinely fits three ways — freestanding, recessed into a wall, or wall-mounted — with the brackets for each included rather than sold separately

Weakest point: At 127 cm (50 in) wide and 20.7 kg (45.6 lb), the built-in route needs a wall recess sized in advance — this is not a drop-in retrofit for an existing opening built for a different unit

Dimplex XHD26

Suits: A media-wall or chimney-breast renovation where a flush, brand-name insert matters more than heat output, and the surround is being built to size around the unit.

Strongest point: Sold directly by Amazon on every confirmed market (not just third-party), which the other three fireplaces in this comparison are not

Weakest point: Insert only — there is no freestanding or wall-surface-mount option; a surround or recess has to exist or be built for it

Where these numbers come from

The units on this page are drawn from the catalog of this site. Figures are the ones the maker publishes and the ones on the Amazon listing; prices are what Keepa recorded on the date shown, and neither stands still. The order follows declared figures, the weight of stated strengths against stated limits, and price. Nothing on this site has been run in person, and no page here pretends otherwise.
